Research Statement
My research focuses on the ways in which armed conflicts and peacebuilding processes shape gender relations, post-war violence, and state formation. Grounded on the case of the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), I examine the relationship between the civil resistance strategies of ex-combatants and the uncertainty surrounding post-conflict settings where the state has failed to control violence. I also investigate gender transformations after conflicts subside, paying attention to ex-combatants’ domestic and organizational spaces. In addition to my ethnographic research, I collaborate on projects that employ quantitative methods to examine the impact of war and peace on gender equality in local governance.
